It's always nice to find a new use for an old picture. In this case, Chelsea from Time needed images of guns for a feature called "The New Politics of Gun Control" (← paywalled). I had some images from a gun range that I photographed during the 2016 New Hampshire presidential primary earlier this year, and it ended up as an almost double-truck in the Sept. 12-19, 2016, issue of Time.

I had a funny way of first seeing the image in print: I was getting on a plane in Zagreb, Croatia, after participating in the Organ Vida Festival, and had been bumped to first class for some reason. The flight attendant asked if I wanted any newspapers, but only had Croatian newspapers. I asked if there were any English-language publications and she disappeared to check. She came back with the International New York Times and a copy of Time magazine containing this story and my picture. I'm not sure I've ever been handed a copy of one of my own pictures quite like that.

Last month, I had two images in the International Center for Photography-curated exhibition, "Winning the White House: From Press Prints to Selfies," and that exhibition has now moved to the MANA Contemporary in Jersey City, New Jersey, for an extended run from Sept. 25, 2016 to Jan. 27, 2017.

The show features work by Cornell Capa, Grey Villet, Elliott Erwitt, Stephen Crowley, Chris Buck, and many others, and examines presidential politics from the first televised debate between Kennedy and Nixon until now.

I just got back home from exhibitions and festivals in Croatia, Bulgaria, and Lithuania, but I'm heading to New York this weekend to take part in a panel discussion at Photoville. Presented by Michael Shaw and Reading the Pictures, the panel is called "The Presidential Campaign Through New Eyes" and will also include Michael Shaw (as moderator), Mark Abramson, Landon Nordeman, Lorie Novak, and Hilary Swift. I've worked alongside Mark, Landon, and Hilary, covered the 2012 campaign a little for Michael at Reading the Pictures (then called BagNewsNotes), and have admired Lorie's work for a while, especially her Above the Fold project, so it's very exciting for me to sit on this panel with them, taking a step back from our work and considering it in a broader context.

The talk starts at 6pm on 24 September 2016 at the Photoville Pavilion at 60 Water Street in Brooklyn. Here's the announcement about the event on the Reading the Pictures website, as well.

I'll be in Europe from Aug. 24 to Sept. 18 for both fun and work. First, there's a wedding in France and a visit to Barcelona. Then, I'll be in Kaunas, Lithuania, where my work will be on display at the Kaunas Photo Festival. After that, it's Sofia, Bulgaria, for an exhibition, workshop, and lectures. Then, I'll be in Zagreb, Croatia, for an exhibition at the Organ Vida Festival. The work being exhibited at each of these festivals is my recent political work, This is the worst party I've ever been to. Thanks to the teams putting on each of these events for including my work.
